Peter has represented the Aston Ward with its six Parishes on South Derbyshire District Council since 2007. As a Chartered Civil Engineer, he uses his professional experience and knowledge to the benefit of the community in economic and environmental development, planning and infrastructure matters.
Peter is Chairman of the Environmental & Development Services Committee at the District Council and has overseen the delivery of one of the Conservatives’ key pledges in 2011: a ‘green bin’ waste collection service for bottles, cans and plastics. The scheme has been most successful with a reduction in landfill charges as more waste is being recycled. Another of Peter’s aims is to provide more houses in South Derbyshire to satisfy the demand brought about by an aging population and changing life styles: reflecting the need to support independent living. He supports Council policies which seek from developers a commitment to build affordable houses in appropriate sustainable places on their sites which will provide homes for young people. He looks forward to the adoption of the local Plan which will provide the policies for the economic, environmental and social development of South Derbyshire for the next 20 years - to make it an even better and safer place to live, work and enjoy leisure time.
Peter is also Chairman of the Melbourne Area Safer Neighbourhood Partnership and is pleased that in recent years, crime has reduced in the District to make it one of the safest areas in Derbyshire. He will also continue to campaign vociferously both nationally and locally for the construction of an alternative route to Swarkestone Causeway - which is now an approved scheme to be built when funds are available.
