Local County Councillors Stuart Swann (Swadlincote South) and Pat Murray (Linton) have gained grant funding for three local sports clubs.
The Councillors have worked to provide funds for Overseal FC’s under-15s Thunders team to purchase full home and away kits for the players.
Funding has also been provided to help enable Gresley Rovers FC and South Derbyshire Boxing Academy to continue the clubs’ important work in the local community.
Local sports club are a vital part of our communities and we must do all we can to support them particularly during the pandemic. The extra funding will ensure it's continuity and provide young people with fun opportunities and physical activities. Many young people need clubs like this to develop and explore different interests outside of school.
Pat said, “These clubs provide local young people with wonderful opportunities for physical activity, camaraderie, and teamwork. The pandemic has limited chances for fundraising and gaining sponsorship so these grants will help the good work of the clubs to continue.”
Stuart added, “It’s really good to be able to help these three great local sports clubs during these very difficult times. I look forward to seeing all our local clubs back up and running as soon as possible.”
