Stuart Swann, County Councillor for Swadlincote South and Church Gresley, has secured a grant of £515 for the South Derbyshire CVS Foodbank.
Stuart said, “The South Derbyshire Foodbank provides vital support for individuals and families at their most vulnerable.
“In the lead up to Christmas and with the continuing Covid-19 pandemic, this grant will assist the Foodbank to help people in Swadlincote and the surrounding areas facing hardship due to redundancy, ill-health and other negative changes to their personal circumstances.”
The pandemic has put an increasing amount of pressure on families and services like this will guarantee them support and ease the burden that the pandemic has exasperated.
The Conservatives have been working hard to support families through the pandemic. Key benefits were boosted by over £1,000 per year for 12 months, part of a £9.3bn increase to the welfare safety net.
Councils were also given £63m to help those families most in need, including supplying food if that is appropriate. A further £170m has been provided for councils via the COVID Winter Grant Scheme. The Scheme provides further funding to councils in England, with at least 80 per cent earmarked to support with food and bills, and will cover the period to the end of March 2021.
