Heather Wheeler, MP has welcomed new Government funding to support community transport services, and is urging local providers in South Derbyshire to bid for support.
Heather commented further: “The funding total will be £25 million of new support to provide hundreds of voluntary community transport providers with new minibuses. Community bus services like Swadlincote Community Transport are a vital part of communities, providing transport for people who do not have access to conventional public transport or who are, due to illness or disability, unable to use it.
“This investment in local communities is all part of our long-term economic plan: a plan which is now both delivering a better future for Britain and is committed to building stronger, more secure communities.
“This new funding will give community transport organisations the opportunity to purchase a new minibus in order to expand their service, or to replace an old one. Any community transport provider will be able to bid for one vehicle, whilst smaller and more rural community organisations are particularly encouraged to apply for funding.’’
